Beautiful Captiva Island Getaway

This tropical island home located on charming Captiva Island has two bedrooms, plus a loft, two full bathrooms, and comfortably sleeps six. It features an open layout with a spacious, fully-equipped kitchen featuring an island that seats four, a dining table that seats six, and comfortable casual furniture for friends and family to relax, chat, play games or watch TV (55” screen). Hard surface flooring has been installed through out the house. Included are high-speed wireless internet, 4 flat screen HDTVs (including two Smart TVs), two DVD players, an extensive library, and a large screened-in porch for enjoying an early morning breakfast or late night dinner after a day at the beach.

Upstairs the master bedroom has a king-size bed, ensuite bath, and a private sun/moon deck for lounging. It is ideal for enjoying the clear, starry skies at night or you might be lucky enough to see ospreys nesting in the tall trees nearby. The spacious loft provides an area for relaxing, reading, and additional sleeping space with a queen-size futon and separate twin bed. Check out our diverse collection of novels and island books for your reading pleasure.

The second bedroom on the main level features two twin beds with an adjacent double-sink bathroom with shower/tub. A laundry area equipped with a new washer and dryer is provided for our guests. Air conditioning (new AC in January 2024) and ceiling fans in every room will keep a breeze flowing even on the hottest days, and an outdoor shower (with hot and cold running water) under the house allows you to wash off after a day at the beach.

Early Morning at the Beach

A private boardwalk from the pool leads you to the expansive beach, where world-famous shelling can be found. Surf-fishing is popular and the slope of the beach allows safe and easy swimming in the blue waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Take a moment to observe the dolphins as they surface close to shore.

Sunrise over the Bay at the Marina

To reach the bay side of Captiva, it is a short walk from the house to the community’s private marina, where you can fish or look for manatees on calm days, or just enjoy boats as they come and go. There are guest slips available at no cost for visitors’ boats.  Repairs from Hurricane Ian’s damage will be made as soon as possible, hopefully by this summer 2024.

Where is Sunset Captiva?

Sunset Captiva Community spans Captiva Island from the Gulf to the Bay in southwest Florida. It's about a five minute walk from the Beach on the Gulf to the Marina on the Bay.

Airport

The nearest airport is the Ft. Myers (RSW) International airport. It is located just off of I-75 on the east side of Ft. Myers. Most major domestic and many international airlines fly directly into Ft Myers. The airport is modern and very pleasant, and all areas are easily accessible.

Ground Transportation

Airport to Captiva door-to-door takes about an hour depending on traffic and the season. Ground transportation is available at the airport (you can pre-arrange it). All the major car rental companies are located on-site. Ride-share companies are available as well.

Hertz car rental is the only company which allows a one-way car drop-off on Captiva at the South Seas Resort. (10 minute walk from Sunset Captiva)

Groceries

Groceries can be picked up on the way to the Islands of Sanibel/Captiva. Costco has a great location just five minutes south of the airport. Whole Foods Market (opened Summer 2018) is also conveniently located near the airport. Numerous Publix stores are located at major intersections on the way to the Islands.

Once on Sanibel, groceries and other items can be purchased at Bailey's Grocery (or pre-ordered to be delivered to the house on the day of your arrival). Unfortunately Baileys on Sanibel was heavily damaged by Hurricane Ian on Sept 28, 2022. Baileys will have to be completely rebuilt. The Farmers Market on Sanibel reopened post-hurricane on Sundays from 9-1 through May 2023 and will be back next fall 2023 in their old location.

The Island Store (is open and now owned by Bailey’s!), is on Captiva and is just steps from our front door. They have an excellent selection of anything you might have forgotten or need to pickup last minute. Our favorite Queenie's Ice Cream (made by a local long- time Captiva resident) is sold there; we love Black Raspberry Chocolate Chip! The Queenie’s factory in Ft Myers suffered tremendous damage from the Hurricane and it’s currently unknown when our favorite ice cream will be available.

A new Farmers' Market started up on Captiva in the fall of 2017. They share some of the same merchants/ booths with the Sanibel Farmers' Market and are open on Tuesday mornings from November through April. Hopefully they will be back in fall 2023.
